Quick Update 14 Jan 03

Hi everybody,

A few more winter news:

- Reminder of our WCSA breakfast at the Convention on Saturday Feb. 7. We
will have a presentation about the World Class status and also a brief
presentation about the happenings at the manufacturers and designers end in Poland.

- I received an e-mail from Burt Compton, who now has Marfa Soaring open all
year. See copy below. It looks like Marfa is becoming a high point for
PW-5...! and that we may get some serious competition in Hobbs from two-time National
Champion John Byrd. Notwithstanding that Hobbs is also Larry Pardue's home
turf...! I think this is going to be our best national contest ever.

- For those of you who are looking for buying a glider for the upcoming
season, I know of two that are for sale: KZ, currently based at Ridge Soaring in
PA, and HB in TX. I remember seeing both ships at previous Nationals and they
looked very good. If you are interested, contact me and I'll pass all the

Happy flights,
============message from Marfa==============

Just to update you, "Marfa Gliders" is now operating year-round near the
mountains of west Texas. See our website at

Two PW-5's are currently flying at Marfa this winter: Bill Snead (6W) stores
his PW-5 in the trailer by our new glider hangar, then flies his Cessna 182
out from Georgetown, Texas on the weekends to soar.

John Byrd, Marfa area resident and two-time Standard Class Champion, is
practicing in Jayne & Frank Reid's PW-5 (JF) for next summer's World Class contest
at Hobbs.

In addition, we have enjoyed visits by Charles Yeates with his PW-6, and
Tammie and Dean Carswell with the TSA PW-5. Larry Pardue promises to visit Marfa
with his PW-5, perhaps to tune up for the July 2004 World Class Contest at
Hobbs, NM.

PW-5's are always welcome at Marfa! Bring the family - there is lots to do
around the Marfa Plateau and in the scenic Davis Mountains. And look for our
"Marfa Gliders" booth at the SSA Convention - see you there!
